Advantages and Disadvantages of E-Books

In today's world, where everything is made available on the internet, people also read books online. The trend of reading books on the internet is gaining popularity—however, some certain advantages and disadvantages accompanying this digital advancement.

Some of the significance of e-books include:

1. Portable: carrying heavy books around with you could be a hassle. Moreover, if you are traveling somewhere, having large bundles of books would make your luggage heavy. But all these effects are no longer there to trouble you anymore. You can carry a lot of books at once as they just took up space in mobiles or laptops' memory instead of the capacity of your bag. Isn't that great?

2. Read in the dark: when reading books, the problem faced by many people is that they can't read with comfort and ease and night. You can adjust the brightness as per your requirement.

It won't only be outstanding and feasible for you but also for others around you as you don't have to disturb them by turning on the lights to read your favorite book.

3. Change font size: while reading books offline, you often put an extra burden on your eyes to read the text properly. However, this is no longer an issue. In e-books, you can alter the font size to prevent your eyes from being too stressed out.

4. Less cost: when publishing a book online, you don't have to go through the extra fee of publishing, editing, marketing, etc.; there are no manufacturing and shipping costs involved. Moreover, on platforms like Amazon, you can publish your books for free and earn an opportunity to be renowned as a writer.

5. Video and audio: in e-books, features like animations and graphics add thrill to the overall text. Moreover, if you are too lazy to read, you can also listen to the audio of the content written. Isn't that amazing?

Now let's look into the disadvantages of e-books.

1. Too much screen time: although e-books are great when it comes to increasing font size or reading in the dark, still, to read them, you have to stare at the screen for too long. It has some effects on your eyes and sometimes your brain as well.

2. Piracy: with e-books, it is easier for anyone to copy your work and post it online with their name. There is a considerable risk involved with e-books published on unreliable platforms.

3. Security issues: when downloading or reading books online, there are chances of virus invasion on your device. Moreover, sometimes your data can also be hacked.

4. Loss of data: when software or hardware becomes outdated, you need to update it. While doing so, sometimes, the e-books saved in your virtual libraries gets deleted, and the way to recover them is a headache.
